what is functional training and why is it important?

 

The human body is a tool, not an ornament. Muscles, joints and your brain all work together to move your body through space or to manipulate things around you. Functional training is about training your body to do the things it has evolved to do.

 

When training with Sisu Fitness, you will find most of the exercises you do will be in the standing position. Why? Because most body function in your sporting or daily life is done from a standing position. More advanced functional training exercise are done on either one leg, in a split stance, or with a step.

 

Functional training

 

A lot of the exercises you will do with your Sisu Fitness trainer may not be familiar to you. They involve moving multiple joints simultaneously, moving your body through multiple planes and require you to develop dynamic stability.

 

Our training sessions in Brunswick don't involve moving from one machine to another. You will run, jump and throw; use dumbells, medicine balls and resistance bands.

Functional training with Sisu Fitness involves very little specific focus on “core” exercises. Functional exercise requires your body to stabilise itself from the toes to the nose, incorporating most of the muscles in the trunk, in the abdominal region and the back.
